The Federal Capital Territory, Abuja was agog on Friday night as national telecommunications operator, Globacom, staged the biggest global comedy show, Glo Laffta Fest in the city.
Thisday Dome, venue of the show beamed with enthusiastic crowd as 16 of Nigeria’s finest and international comedians combined with the nation’s biggest and popular musicians to thrill Abuja residents with magical performances.
The artistes comprising four Americans, one South African, one Ugandan and 10 top Nigerian entertainers from Nigeria’s comedy and music circle, showed why Glo Laffta Fest is adjudged as the biggest comedy show in Africa.
Anchored by popular comedian, Basketmouth, the Glo Laffta Fest, aptly tagged Invasion LOL, will remain indelible in the minds of Abuja residents as many of those who attended said the FCT had never witnessed a show of that magnitude.
Sensational singer, Omawumi fired the first salvo, when she set the expansive hall rocking.
In an energetic performance spiced with her dexterous dance steps, Omawumi’s rendition of her hit track, “Adebisikonga,” drove the excited crowd into a frenzy.
Similarly, the Taraba State-born artiste, MI delivered a superlative performance. Hip hop singer, Wande Coal was at his best as he caused the huge crowd to root for his “Bumper to Bumper”.
The duo of Peter and Paul Okoye of the PSquare fame also thrilled the people. The crowd rocked to their melodious songs and energetic display. PSquare sent the astounded crowd into cloud seven with their rendition of “Alingo” which was seasoned with clinically choreographed dance steps till the wee hours of Saturday.
In between the musical performances and intertwined with the performances by the foreign comedians, the top Nigerian comedians on parade such as Akpororo, Gordons, I Go Save, Buchi, Funny Bone and Bovi, gave a good account of themselves. Funny Bone, the Jos born comedian, made efforts to diffuse tension from the security challenges in the country with his expressive jokes. Unimpressed by the first round of applause he got when he mounted the stage, Funny Bone who was wheeling a luggage, threatened to detonate the package if the crowd refused to applaud him.
