Numerous questions were left hanging in the rape case of a
15-year-old girl who was abused and impregnated by the Minister of
Mines’ Walter Chidhakwa’s father.
Mr Augustine Chidhakwa, who is 76 years old was arrested on charges of raping the minor in a case which saw the girl being medically examined and proved ‘ to be indeed pregnant’
He was detained at Zvimba police base which is close to President Robert Mugabe’s homestead at Kutama Mission.
Chidhakwa is also a member of Zanu PF’s National Consultative Assembly.
Questions began to linger over the case after police refused to comment any further having mysteriously released Mr Chidhakwa under unclear circumstances. Newsday journos sought a comment from Mash West Police Spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara who declined to comment referring the matter to Harare. When reporters reached out to police spokeswoman Charity Charamba they were told she has no knowledge of the case whatsoever.
Sources quoted by Newsday have stated that Augustine was fingered as the one who allegedly impregnated the minor. “The girl (name withheld) from Gamarahwe Village from Kutama is now five-months pregnant. Augustine was arrested after the complainant’s sister discovered the pregnancy and reported the matter to police,” a police source who declined to be named said.
