Two groups working for President
Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday called for the immediate arrest of a former
President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, over his letter to President
Goodluck Jonathan alleging some irregularities in government.
The groups, PDP Reloaded and Arise
Nigeria, alleged that majority of the issues raised by Obasanjo in his
letter happened during his regime both as military head of state and as
civilian President.
Leaders of the two groups, Chief
Richard Lamai(PDP Reloaded) and Chief Jasper Johnson (Arise Nigeria),
who spoke at a press briefing in Abuja, also extolled the leadership
qualities of President Jonathan.
They wondered why the former President
could resort to writing letters when he could call the President or
visit him at any time.
They noted that Obasanjo must have the
list of the alleged 1,000 politicians listed for elimination by the
Federal Government in preparation for the 2015 general elections and
that because of this, he should be invited by the security agencies.
The statement partly reads, “It is in
this regard that we call on the nation’s security agencies to invite
Obasanjo to help them unravel the mystery camp where the snipers are
being trained and the list of those earmarked for elimination.”
However, a former deputy governorship
candidate in Ogun State, Mr. Tunde Oladunjoye, dismissed those calling
for the arrest of Obasanjo as political jobbers and profiteers, who
the former President would not dignify with a response.
Oladunjoye, in a telephone interview on
Tuesday, explained that Obasanjo expected Jonathan to respond to the
letter, stressing that he (Obasanjo) would not bandy words with anyone
over it.
He said, “Obasanjo will not react, join
issues or bandy words with anybody or groups. He has written an open
letter and what he expects is for President Jonathan to respond to the
contents and carry out what he highlighted in the letter.”
